driver de vídeo do Laptop é um “
Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller“, conforme retornado pelo
lspci. Em teoria, isso quer dizer que, com o uso do
driver i810 do X.org, seria possível o uso de aceleração gráfica, ou seja, além de jogar jogos 3D como TORCS, Penguin Racer e OpenArena, seria possível usar-se Beryl ou Compiz para
eye-candys 3D. Seguindo orientações como a desse artigo do blog “
Where I can Finally be calm…” e
essa do site VivaOLinux, tentei configurar o meu X para aceitar o Beryl. Instalei também todos os pacotes e, após ativar o Beryl, começaram os problemas: inicialmente perdi todas as decorações da janela. Além disso, e esse segundo problema ocorreu inclusive com Games 3D no Linux, meu sistema trava após um período aleatório de tempo. Tentei inclusive modificar meu
/etc/X11/xorg.conf, incluindo uma diretriz
VideoRam que poderia forçar o aumento da memória gráfica, mas tudo o que consegui foi piorar a performance do vídeo. Mantive a configuração com o VideoRam desativado e a performance voltou ao normal em 2D, com todos os games rodando com uma boa performance. Abaixo alguns
snapshots.
Algumas instalações foram feitas fora do “padrão” do Debian. No caso, foram instalados BrOffice.org, Java, Flash, CGoban 3 (cliente para à Kiseido Go Server) Mozilla Thunderbird (instalado no Debian como Icedove) e Mozilla Firefox, embora o Firefox venha instalado no Debian como IceWeasel por motivos de Marca Registrada. No caso, a instalação do Thunderbird e do Firefox foram tranqüilas, apenas descompactando os binários baixados do site da Mozilla no /opt. O BrOffice.org foi instalado conforme descrito em um artigo anterior meu usando a dica do Hamacker, adaptada para a nova versão do BrOffice.org, a 2.2.1, reintegrada ao codebase do OpenOffice.org original. Seguindo a mesma idéia desse artigo do meu blog, configurei o JDK 6.0 + Netbeans 5.5, e seguindo uma adaptação desse artigo da VivaOLinux para ativar o Java no Firefox.
O CGoban 3 foi razoavelmente fácil de ser instalado: uma vez instalado e configurando o Java como dito anteriorente, abra o terminal e use o comando “javaws http://files.gokgs.com/javaBin/cgoban.jnlp“. O próprio Java Web Start irá copiar e instalar o CGoban 3 por conta própria. Existe uma opção de instalação que não se associa à extensão .sgf (Smart Go File), formato de gravação de arquivos de jogos de Go. No caso, para mais informações sobre isso, entre no site da KGS.
Para instalar o Flash e o configurar no Firefox, não é muito difícil: pegue o plugin no site da Adobe. No caso do Debian, é melhor (pelo menos eu acho) usar o plugin em .tar.gz. Uma vez copiado o arquivo, abra um Terminal, descompacte-o em algum diretório e passe para root. Vá à pasta onde você descompactou o arquivo da Adobe e chame o instalador do Flash com o comando “./flashplayer-installer“. Confirme a instalação com Enter e aperte Enter novamente. Em seguida, informe a pasta do Firefox (no meu caso, /opt/firefox) e confirme com y a instalação. Se quiser (e tiver navegadores compatíveis), você pode instalar os plugins do Flash em outros navegadores, como o Konqueror, Epiphany, Iceweasel ou SeaMonkey (IceApe).
A passagem de Debian Etch para Debian Lenny (atual versão testing) é uma boa idéia apenas se sua estação de trabalho não precisar ser mantida estável. No meu caso, meu laptop é usado apenas por mim. De qualquer modo, isso é questão de opção pessoal. Para o fazer, copie um backup de seu /etc/apt/sources.list. Com seu editor favorito (no meu caso o emacs) modifique as entradas de stable para testing e de etch para lenny. Rode o apt-get update. Se houver alguma falha, verifique as fontes e modifique as entradas falhas de volta ao original (ou seja, de testing para stable e de lenny para etch) e reexecute o comando apt-get update. Assim que ele carregar corretamente todas as informações de repositório, rode apt-get -y dist-upgrade. Isso irá atualizar toda a sua distro. Aguarde que o download será intenso. Após o término e instalação dos pacotes .deb (durante os quais ele poderá pedir informações adicionais, abrindo janelas curses para pedido de configuração como de costume no Debian), reinicie o laptop. Seu Debian deverá ser já um Lenny.
